A Decade of Inclusivity and Development
Ten years have passed; fulfilling the dreams of the poor, the hopes of women, and the vision of youth by the Pinarayi Government. Today, God’s Own Country stands tall—resilient and determined, a state that has honoured its promises to its people. From the bustling shores of Vizhinjam, where giant ships now anchor, to the quiet villages where pensions bring dignity to the forgotten, Kerala’s journey over the past decade shines with resilience, radiance, and resolution. This decade has been defined by milestones that reflect the strength of Kerala’s distinctive development model. The eradication of extreme poverty and the achievement of 100% digital literacy are not mere statistics, but powerful symbols of a society that values equity and progress. Welfare initiatives have been central to this transformation.
The Women’s Security Pension Scheme, extending financial support to poor women and trans women between the ages of 35 and 60, embodies inclusivity. Social security pensions have been raised to ₹2,000, now reaching nearly 64 lakh beneficiaries, while honorariums for ASHA workers and other grassroots contributors have been increased, acknowledging their indispensable role in community well-being. Alongside these welfare measures, Kerala has made bold strides in infrastructure and economic growth. The completion of mega projects such as the GAIL pipeline, the Kochi-Edamon power corridor, and the Puthuvypin LPG terminal has strengthened the state’s industrial backbone. The Vizhinjam International Seaport, India’s first trans-shipment terminal, has already positioned Kerala as a global maritime hub.
Transport connectivity has advanced with renewed vigour, supported by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), which has financed progress across education, healthcare, highways, and coastal development. Kerala’s achievements over the past decade demonstrate that welfare and growth are not opposing forces but complementary pillars of inclusive development. In this issue Kerala Calling reviews how the government has balanced social security with infrastructure expansion, compassion with ambition, and vision with execution—creating a model of progress that continues to inspire both the nation and the world.
